Oak Cliff is a large neighborhood located in the Southwest part of Dallas. Home to Latinos and African Americans, much of the area has been gentrified over the past decade. Residents of Oak Cliff are known for their community pride. The Latino community has deep ties to their Mexican heritage and culture, which is expressed through the visual and performing arts and in the vernacular architecture of the neighborhood. Like many places where the residents are from different cultures, people in Oak Cliff often stay and socialize within their own ethnic community. However, through projects such as Seventeen Hundred Seeds, this is separation is changing and neighbors are meeting neighbors, across racial and socio-economic lines.
